Dental Implant Types
![]()
There are generally two types of dental implants in use today endosteal and subperiosteal implants. Endosteal implants are types of implants that utilize screws or blades that are placed/screwed onto the bone itself to support one or more teeth. Subperiosteal implants is used for people with low bone height which would make endosteal implants impractical. They are also used for people who cannot use regular removable dentures and utilizes a metal frame (usually made of titanium) which is implanted in the gums and is then used to support the ceramic teeth. Both these types have advantages and disadvantages which should be discussed with a dentist for better understanding on which would work best for a certain individual.
